Fees and Costs
If finances or lack of a family dentist are preventing your child from seeing a dentist, our pediatric dentistry clinic is available to provide your family with affordable dental care. Fees are at a reduced rate in our student clinic. WV Medicaid is accepted.
When should you see a Pediatric dentist?
We recommend your child's first visit be when the first tooth comes in or when your child turns one. Children should see a dentist every six months or at least once a year.
What is Pediatric Dentistry?
While a pediatric dentist provides preventive treatment and general dental care, they often manage treatment for patients with special needs. A pediatric dentist can provide infant oral health exams, diagnose and treat gum disease, care for children with dental injuries, address unhealthy habits and provide nutrition recommendations.
What is a Pediatric dentist?
The focus of a pediatric dentist's care is to treat infants and children through adolescence, including those with special healthcare needs. A pediatric dentist has completed dental school and finished two to three years of advanced education to specifically treat children.

For emergencies
Pediatric patients needing emergent services should present to the Main Reception Desk at the WVU Health Sciences Center dental clinic where they will be registered and referred to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic for evaluation and treatment as needed.
Molar sealants
Through preventive dentistry, families can save a considerable amount of money. To prevent decay in a child’s permanent molars, sealants should be applied to the teeth as soon as they are fully developed. Patients with sealants can avoid costs associated with filling cavities.
Brushing tips
Infant to one year old
As soon as teeth come in, they should be wiped with a clean, soft cloth or a baby's toothbrush.
One to three years old
Use a rice-sized drop of fluoride toothpaste and gently brush or help brush your child’s teeth.
Three to seven years old
Use a pea-sized drop of fluoride toothpaste and gently brush or help brush child’s teeth.
Seven years old
Children of this age should be able to effectively brush on their own.
